Seizure Recognition & Response Training
Presented by: Eloy De La Cruz, Epilepsy Foundation of South Texas

When: Saturday • March 31st, 2012 • 10:00am – Noon
Participants will learn:
- The impact of seizures on cognition and behavior.
- How to recognize the most common seizure types
- Simple strategies for creating a more positive and supportive environment.
- Appropriate first aid for common seizure types.
- Steps you can take to help maximize educational and developmental opportunities for persons with seizures.
Training Objectives:
- Recognize common seizure types and their possible impact
- Identify Seizure Triggers
- Learn Appropriate First Aid
- Recognize when a seizure is an emergency
- Provide social and academic support
- Treatments for Epilepsy including Ketogenic Diet, VNS, Surgery, and Medications
- Seizure Action Plans
- Seizure first aid in water, on a school bus, and in a wheelchair.
Parents and caregivers are welcome. In order to ensure space registration is limited to 30 adults.

Day to Day Life After School: An Overview
When: Saturday • May 12, 2012 • 9:00am – 11:00am
Information will be available on a wide range of residential, day program and leisure options for individuals once they graduate or age out of the school system.
* Childcare option: Respite Care of San Antonio offers Family Day Out at the
PSC on Saturdays 9am-4pm. You MUST be registered with Respite to utilize

This presentation includes information and support to aid in a successful health care transition for young self-advocates: web-based resources/workbooks, public and private health insurance, health insurance risk pool, Texas insurance law, resources, Medicaid Buy-In, and more. Come prepared to begin working on your own health care transition plan for yourself or a loved one.
